What is Orthoptics?
Orthoptics Is:
the Assessment of the alignment of the two eyes to detect the presence or absence of a squint (strabismus) and / or lazy eye (amblyopia).
Assessment of the eye movements (eye muscle balance).
Assessment of the ability to use the two eyes together (binocular function)
Orthoptists specialise in assessing the above in babies and young children and children and adults with special needs.
Orthoptists also see adults with eye movement disorders and double vision.
